Rajini’s ‘Coolie’ And Hrithik’s ‘War 2’ Set To Clash On Independence Day
The North South divide along with the Tamil Hindi collIsion are set to hit each other in yet another field, cinema. Never-say-retire Rajinikanth and the suave dancing star Hrithik Roshan are about to wage war for the biggest grosser on August 14 with their Coolie and War 2. Lokesh Kanakaraj directed Coolie produced by Sun Pictures, with Anirudh’s rambunctious music has a marquee of stars from every state –a Rajini backed formula meant to draw the crowds in their home states. Coolie has Sathyaraj, Aamir Khan, Upendra and Nagarjuna with Shruti Haasan as the glamour quotient to bring in hordes of fans to cheer their favourite. The same date is planned for War 2, directed by Ayan Mukherji with Hrithik Roshan, Junior NTR, Anil Kapoor and Kiara Advani. So which film will be paisa vasool for the fans? Obviously, Coolie is sure to lead in the South and it is the talk that Aamir Khan’s souped up role is bound to floor fans. Is Coolie about to carry the big load in the North Indian market too? Even as federalism is in for heated discussion, state supremacy is ostensibly promoted …Nagarjuna the hot favourite in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, Upendra in Karnataka and Soubin Shahir in Kerala. War2 Jr. NTR is no pushover, with his overwhelming fan base in Telugu Desam. and may have a better reception overseas too. If you think producers are playing a high stakes IPL, don’t discount and scorn the viewer as a walkover. Cinema is undergoing a huge churning, with multiple dimension competition…from OTT, piracy and small budget but significant story tellers. Many well thought out strategies can fail despite big stakes.

In Tamil Nadu, BJP-AIADMK Leaders Tie Up Informally For 2026 Polls
The BJP and AIADMK have agreed informally to have an alliance for the Tamil Nadu polls of 2026. K. Annamalai, who heads the TN BJP and Edappadi K Palaniswami (EPS) of AIADMK have agreed to come together again after the AIADMK broke the alliance because it believed it lost more from the association with a party that propagates Hindutva. The two have also agreed to keep their alliance intentions under wraps for now lest the many influences around the TN political scene try to disrupt the coming together of parties that can dent the DMK’s chances of winning the polls. EPS is not interested at the moment in bringing back the former CM O Panneerselvam and his mentor Sasikala, but he may have to compromise if the national BJP insists on everyone coming together to take on the DMK. The BJP would like an even bigger alliance with Vijay’s debutante party TVK in it, but the actor has taken such a strong line against all other Tamil Nadu parties that he may have no option but to go it alone. The Opposition parties are aware that their best chance to take advantage of the building anti-incumbency and feelings running against the DMK’s family rule is to unite. Whether that would be possible with Vijay being the X factor in the coming elections is moot. With a little over a year to go, no development on the alliance front is to be ruled out but the AIADMK-BJP alliance is already sealed.

What’s In A Surname? Ask Beed Police Chief
For the first time perhaps in India, police personnel in a district have started wearing just their names and not their surnames on their uniform nameplates. This has happened in the strife-stricken Beed district of Marathwada region in Maharashtra. Superintendent of Police Navneet Kanwat implemented this measure after allegations became rampant that even the police force in the district had been operating on a caste basis. At the core of the charge is the caste-based rift between the powerful Maratha and Vanjari communities ever since influential minister Dhananjay Munde was embroiled in a serious episode which was triggered off due to the heinous murder of a sarpanch, Santosh Deshmukh, allegedly by henchmen of Munde. After tremendous pressure was exerted, he had to resign since the Mahayuti government was in the dock owing to the collapsed law and order situation in the district. As the caste related allegations became a crescendo, Kanwat decided to minimize the gravity of the situation by ordering the police personnel to just display their names and not the surnames. He himself wears the nameplate that merely says Navneet. The district became a hotbed of tension since Maratha reservation proponent Manoj Jarange, who belongs to the district, launched an agitation to press the demand, enraging the OBC community since he demanded a reservation share from the OBC quota. The repercussions of the class between the two communities reflected in the Lok Sabha elections last year as the Mahayuti lost heavily. Social engineering measures by the Mahayuti strategists turned the tables in the legislative assembly election that was swept by the saffron alliance. Navneet has been praised by non-partisan groups for this unprecedented experiment.

Virat Kohli Crosses One More Milestone, Quickest 14000 Runs
Numbers…big numbers matter in cricket; the scorers love it, the statisticians love it, the media loves it and there is no denying the fact the cricketers love it….and here is a big number that Virat Kohli has hit in his long and fantastic career that is into its 18th summer….and that in the form of playing for the men in blue in 300 one-day international matches! And this massive number is an accomplishment only six other Indians in Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, Rahul Dravid, Yuvraj Singh, Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Mohammed Azharuddin have achieved. What makes this big achievement even more significant is that Kohli had taken only 287 innings (from 299 matches) to make the 14000-run cut when juxtaposed against the numbers of Tendulkar (359 matches/350 innings) and Sri Lankan Kumar Sangakkara (402 matches/378 innings). It is a phenomenal feat which is embellished with 51 centuries and 1470 boundary shots (1318x 4s and 158 x 6s) accounting for 6184 runs of his 14085 runs before the 300th ODI – against New Zealand in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 in Dubai. Kohli began his international career as a 19-year old, a few months after he left the junior ranks in style leading India and clinching the ICC Under-19 World Cup in Kuala Lumpur.  And 17 years later, he has been celebrated as the greatest ever ODI player by former international captains. Kohli has already played over 100 Tests and Twenty20 internationals and stamped his authority in each one of them. He has won the white ball World Cups — 50 and 20 overs format in India (2011) and West Indies (2024) and the 2013 Champions Trophy in England. And now the 300th ODI….terrific!

Congress Chief Ministers Prevented From Visiting Dr Singh's Family?
It is being said if the BJP is being seen as having an edge in the Delhi Assembly elections and has consolidated Sikh votes in the state in its favour, it is all because of the manner in which the Modi government had handled the aftermath of demise of former PM Dr Manmohan Singh. Particularly, the swift manner in which PM Modi had promptly visited 3 Moti Lal Nehru Marg residence to commiserate with Dr Singh’s family. Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP chief JP Nadda also visited the family. In contrast, what came as a shock to  Congress CMs — Telangana , Himachal and Karnataka — who had rushed to Delhi were specifically instructed not to visit Dr Singh’s family or interact with them. It was as if the Gandhis did not want the Singh family to develop any contact with the CMs. It is also being speculated that the Gandhis did not want the Centre or Singh’s family to take help of the CMs in building Dr Singh’s memorial. “We want Sikh votes in Dr Singh’s name. But instead of mobilising our support and showing it, we were sitting criticising PM Modi. It has not gone down well with Sikhs-not just in Delhi but all over India. Congress has cut a sorry picture for raking up an outright bogus issue like why only DD was allowed to cover the funeral. This is when PM Modi is being seen as doing so much for our leader. Our CMs should have been involved,” said a Cong leader. Party sources said Telangana CM Revanth Reddy was particularly disappointed with the shabby manner the Congress high command was treating him. Apparently all decisions of the state government are being whetted by KC Venugopal, who as Rahul Gandhi’s close aide and AICC Gen Secy (organisation) has made Reddy’s life quite miserable. Meanwhile, a prayer meeting is being held for Dr Singh at Gurudwara Rakabganj on Dec 3.

TMC Reshuffle On Cards: Will Abhishek Banerjee Be Appointed As Deputy Chief Minister?
The Trinamool Congress (TMC) is witnessing an internal debate over a potential elevation of Abhishek Banerjee, the party’s National General Secretary and nephew of West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee for the position of deputy chief minister. With an organisational reshuffle looming, Abhishek has submitted a comprehensive report to Didi, sparking resistance from the party’s old guard. Prominent leaders, such as Bharatpur MLA Humayun Kabir, are openly advocating for Abhishek to be made deputy CM and Home Minister. Kabir cited recent law and order issues, RG Kar rape case and attack on Kolkata Municipal Corporation councillor as reasons for stronger leadership. However, veteran leaders like Saugata Roy expressed reservations about the Kolkata Police’s efficiency, a veiled critique of current governance. Firhad Hakim, a senior minister, clarified his stance, emphasizing unwavering support for Mamata’s leadership while defending his earlier comments. Hakim reiterated that Didi remains the cornerstone of TMC’s electoral success and governance credibility. This internal friction comes against the backdrop of TMC’s strong performance in the recently concluded bypolls. The party swept six constituencies, including Madarihat in North Bengal, a seat it won for the first time. The success has bolstered confidence in the leadership duo of Mamata and Abhishek, who jointly selected the winning candidates. A national working committee meeting at Mamata’s Kalighat residence on November 25 is expected to address the reshuffle issue. For TMC balancing generational aspirations with the experience of senior leaders remains a critical challenge.

Editor’s Note: Short Post Noticed By People Who Matter

Four years have zipped by and we are crossing another milestone on 31st January 2025 – it’s our 4th Anniversary. It feels good.
Looking back at the 1460 days, I must say Short Post has made its mark with people who matter via 4000 stories published in the areas of politics, business, entertainment and sports. All made possible by the unflinching commitment and dedication of our senior editors, most of whom have been part of this journey from Day One.
Small pack, big impact is in essence the story of Short Post which was launched at the height of the Covid-19 pandemic in 2021. It shows our conviction. In all humility, I can say, we have created a new niche in the news segment space like Hindustan Unilever which created a new segment, when it launched CloseUp Gel.
Yes, we have created a brand (in a limited sense), created demand (readers) and created supply (senior journalists). But we are facing teething problems like all start-ups. What makes us happy and confident is the recognition of our efforts. For instance, we have an arrangement with the OPEN Magazine, part of the $4.5 billion Kolkata-based Sanjiv Goenka-RPG Group. This arrangement sees around 10 Short Post stories posted on OPEN Magazine website every week. This arrangement is testimony that our content has been well received! Also, I may add that the Maharashtra government has recognised Short Post and has allowed our senior editor to cover the Assembly sessions. Ditto: Odisha.
Our goal is to ensure that Short Post becomes a habit. I would like people to keep checking their smartphones to know the latest Authentic Gossip. As regards AI and the fear of it disrupting all businesses including media. On that, personally, I have no such fear as I am confident AI cannot smell news particularly Authentic Gossip. That’s the place we are well entrenched.
