Tamil Nadu CM Does About Turn, Revokes Appointment Order Of His Personal Astrologer
The heat and dust of the shock electoral outcome of Tamil Nadu has hardly settled. The suspense, anticipation and uncertainty of C Joseph Vijay’s bid for chief ministership has still not abated. But Vijay has already issued an official order appointing and revoking astrologer Rickey Radan Pandit Vettrivel as Officer on Special duty in the state. At the floor test all his allies criticised Vijay for appointing his personal astrologer as OSD. Vijay realised the damage done and so he revoked the appointment. Vettrivel is an astrologer in whom Vijay reposes unconditional faith…ever since the Panditji predicted way back in 2023 that 2026 would catapult him to the top pedestal of TN. Vijay who does not repose faith in anyone easily. But once convinced he is known to follow a person faithfully. Pandit Vettrivel was Jayalalithaa’s unfailing soothsayer, guiding her through the trying court case, later he predicted her death. Vijay now follows Panditji’s every advice…from when to go to a place, what to wear and what to avoid. Even after the Karur stampede deaths, the astrologer told Vijay “Just carry on. It’s not a serious impediment. But you should beat the May 14th date for taking charge as CM”. Almost coinciding with his Asthana astrologer appointment, Udhaynidhi Stalin, the default LoP in the TN Assembly spewed out his vituperative vicious rant about Sanathana Dharma and why it should be eradicated. Even as a Congress MP Shashikant Senthil rapped the astro’s OSD post on X. After all, Badshah’s like Akbar had poets, jesters and painters.

The Spectacular Rise & Fall Of Astrologer Radhan Pandit
Radhan Pandit, a high-profile political astrologer, lasted as OSD to Tamil Nadu CM Joseph Vijay for barely 24 hours — appointed on May 12, removed the following day. Yes he was removed from the office as soon as Vijay overwhelmingly won the confidence vote— with a thumping 144 votes way beyond the support of his 106 MLAs. So, what is it with Rickey Radhan Pandit Vettrivel as he calls himself these days that he dominated the TN confidence debate proceedings? Political analysts are surprised that DMDK leader V Premalatha who first flagged the issue of Pandit’s appointment, should call for vigil to maintain “scientific temperament”. Her call may not reflect popular belief in astrology that prevails in the state where annual or decadal planetary transits usually makes headlines. In fact, there are temples dedicated for various planets and people from North India specifically travel to these spots such as Shani Dev Temple in Thirunallar for “griha shanti”.  Is the call for rationalism, a plan to kill astro spiritual tourism of Tamil Nadu under the TVK regime? Is it the design of Christian church against Hindu temples? Once close to the late AIADMK supremo J Jayalalithaa, Radhan Pandit had to flee to Singapore to save himself from her wrath. He had predicted she would get relief in the Disproportionate Assets case. When she was convicted, Jayalalithaa was livid. It was at that point Vettrivel – then known as Erode Vettrivel—moved to Delhi and changed his name. He then tried to hoodwink BJP stalwart LK Advani by telling him that he would be next PM. It was Congress MP Karti Chidambaran who first questioned Raadan Pandit elevation with a subtle post on X “Caligula-Incitatus” referring to the 4th century Roman emperor Caligula’s affection for his favourite horse, Incitatus. Caligula had intended to make his horse consul.

Editor’s Note: Short Post Is Here To Stay…

Time, they say, flies—and how true that is. Here we are celebrating our 5th Anniversary. Five years ago, when Covid-19 was wreaking havoc across the globe, I took a leap of faith and launched Short Post, India’s first website for Authentic Gossip. That was on January 31, 2021. I was convinced there was a clear gap in the market for gossip that was credible, sharp, and impactful—especially if told in just 250 words.

In this, I was fortunate. Scores of senior editors across diverse verticals bought into the idea and, in the process, gave wings to my dream. Quite honestly, Short Post could not have crossed these milestones without the unflinching support of its contributing editors. Like all start-ups, we have seen our share of ups and downs, but these editors have stood by us like a rock. I take this opportunity to doff my hat to them.

Thanks to their commitment, we have published close to 5,000 stories spanning politics, business, entertainment, and sports. I say this with pride: we made our mark as people who matter read us. “Small packs, big impact” truly captures the essence of Short Post.

We all know that Covid-19 has reset businesses worldwide, and the media sector is no exception. In the post-Covid era, investors have become more cautious and selective—and advertisers too. To compound matters, the entry of AI has disrupted the media landscape in equal measure. So far, we have managed to hold our ground, hopeful that some angel investors will take a shine to us.

What gives me confidence is this: AI cannot smell news—especially the gossipy kind. In other words, AI cannot churn out Short Post-type stories, no matter the prompt. That puts us in a safe zone. As someone rightly said, “AI is a co-pilot, not a pilot.”
