Why Priyanka Gandhi And Karnataka Minister Parameshwara Skipped Cong Meet In Ahmedabad
Looks like the Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting in Ahmedabad is making more news about leaders who are not attending than those who are. The focus is not so much about Gandhis — Rahul and Sonia — who attended the meet but Priyanka, General Secretary, who skipped the extended CWC session. It is being said she had taken permission to “skip the AICC session and the just concluded Parliament session to attend a pre-engagement abroad, and the party had accepted her request”. She was out of the country to attend to a relative who is in need of medical help, said senior leader K C Venugopal. Interestingly, Congress ally, Muslim League had expressed concerns over Priyanka’s absence during the Waqf Bill debate.  Jairam Ramesh also pointed out that 35 members were absent from the meeting. More than Priyanka’s absence, what is of significance is the absence of Karnataka Home Minister and prominent Dalit leader G Parameshwara. He skipped the CWC event more because it was made clear to him that he is not being considered for the CM post if the party removed incumbent Siddaramaiah by this year’s end. He has been sulking since his recent Delhi visit. First, he could not get an appointment with Rahul and even party chief Kharge discouraged him from pushing his Dalit CM campaign. Kharge apparently feels such a campaign could hurt prospects of his son Priyank — a minister in Siddaramaiah cabinet — from becoming CM. Meanwhile, to stonewall any regime change a pro Siddaramaiah MLA — Basavaraj Rama Reddy —   has already dubbed the state as “number one in corruption.”  It is feared if the Congress leadership makes DK Shivakumar as CM, it is possible Sidda could once again effect a split in the Congress.
NaMo Staium _002
NaMo Venue To Take Centre Stage, Not Once But Five Times During The World Cup
In a short span of a little over two and a half years, the Narendra Modi (NaMo) Stadium has become most relevant to Indian cricket. Willy-nilly, the member units of the BCCI have accepted the change in power centre in the last four years and thereby Ahmedabad has been favoured for many international matches. Renamed in February 2021 as Narendra Modi Stadium inside the Sardar Patel Sports Complex, with the third Test match against Joe Root’s England, the most talked about venue with a capacity to seat exceeding one lakh spectators will stage the final of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup on November 19. The NaMo Stadium will also stage four round-robin league matches including the inaugural one between the 2019 winner England and runner-up, New Zealand coming Thursday (Oct 5). The NaMo will also be the venue for the marquee ‘Ashes’ Derby between England and Australia, but NaMo’s biggest match of Titanic proportions will be India-Pakistan on October 14 when the State will be in the midst of Navratri festivities. India would have played against Australia in Chennai and Afghanistan in New Delhi before arriving in Ahmedabad for the third of the nine league matches. The news heard on the grapevine is that the fanatics supporting the men in blue are ready to shell out a couple of lakhs of rupees for a single day’s spectacle; all at the NaMo stadium.

With Navratri And Wedding Season, India-Pakistan Clash Will Rake In Big Moola In Ahmedabad
Call it “rake the moola”;  that’s the name of the game in the hospitality industry in Ahmedabad,  the most favoured destination for the marquee matches of the ICC World Cup to be played in India from October 5 to November 19. After the World Cup schedule was announced on July 27 in Mumbai, the room tariffs across star hotels skyrocketed, with many travel agency apps displaying “sold out or not available” messages.  The biggest match of the 48 will take place at the Narendra Modi Stadium on  October 15 (the first day of Navaratri), when the arch-rivals India and Pakistan lock horns, which has a potential billing for around one lakh spectators plus.  Rough estimates have put the hospitality industry to run a turnover close to Rs 1000 crore, with Ahmedabad set to host the opening game (England v New Zealand ), the India v Pakistan match, Australia v England,  South Africa v Afghanistan and the final.  With spectators likely to travel from the USA and UK for the Navratri festival and the wedding season, the home town of India’s Prime Minister and Home Minister is all set for a gala time. The World Cup final of 2011 returned Rs 22 crore to the Mumbai Cricket Association from gate receipts; 12 years later, the Gujarat Cricket Association with a lakh-plus capacity will laugh its way to the Bank!
Namo Stadium
Hardik Pandya And NaMo Stadium Mix Could Attract Huge Footfall For Gujarat Titans
It will truly be the first home season for Gujarat Titans in the IPL Twenty20 competition. The Titans will play seven league matches at the massive edifice at Motera, starting with the opening bout against four time winner Chennai Super Kings. A new entrant to the league last year, the Titans led by crowd puller, Hardik Pandya stunned the discerning and layman by winning the title putting it across the inaugural season champion Rajasthan Royals at the Narendra Modi (NaMo) Stadium in Ahmedabad. This season the Titans will play most matches in the presence of a crowd around one lakh. The high footfall for almost all matches will be happy news for the franchise, CVC Capital Partners, Europe’s biggest Private Equity firm which has  bought the franchise for Rs 5166 crore. At least four franchise owners had reported revenues upwards of Rs 35 crore every season, except when the league was held in South Africa and in the Persian Gulf. The venues in Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Chennai, Mohali, Lucknow and Jaipur and a few more have a capacity much less than at the NaMo and hence the sheer footfall numbers and the price range for tickets should see good revenue from the paying spectators for the Titans which boasts of a big star in Hardik Pandya who delivers the goods with the bat, ball and to boot as a leader!

Editor’s Note: Short Post Noticed By People Who Matter

Four years have zipped by and we are crossing another milestone on 31st January 2025 – it’s our 4th Anniversary. It feels good.
Looking back at the 1460 days, I must say Short Post has made its mark with people who matter via 4000 stories published in the areas of politics, business, entertainment and sports. All made possible by the unflinching commitment and dedication of our senior editors, most of whom have been part of this journey from Day One.
Small pack, big impact is in essence the story of Short Post which was launched at the height of the Covid-19 pandemic in 2021. It shows our conviction. In all humility, I can say, we have created a new niche in the news segment space like Hindustan Unilever which created a new segment, when it launched CloseUp Gel.
Yes, we have created a brand (in a limited sense), created demand (readers) and created supply (senior journalists). But we are facing teething problems like all start-ups. What makes us happy and confident is the recognition of our efforts. For instance, we have an arrangement with the OPEN Magazine, part of the $4.5 billion Kolkata-based Sanjiv Goenka-RPG Group. This arrangement sees around 10 Short Post stories posted on OPEN Magazine website every week. This arrangement is testimony that our content has been well received! Also, I may add that the Maharashtra government has recognised Short Post and has allowed our senior editor to cover the Assembly sessions. Ditto: Odisha.
Our goal is to ensure that Short Post becomes a habit. I would like people to keep checking their smartphones to know the latest Authentic Gossip. As regards AI and the fear of it disrupting all businesses including media. On that, personally, I have no such fear as I am confident AI cannot smell news particularly Authentic Gossip. That’s the place we are well entrenched.
