Has Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel Put In His Papers?
In March 2024 Haryana chief minister Manoharlal Khattar resigned his post and now, Gujarat chief minister Bhupendra Patel is following suit. Khattar resigned after PM Narendra Modi asked him while honest Patel’s similar intent is owed to familial reasons. Patel communicated his indisposition to public service as he wants to dedicate himself to the full-time care of his ailing son, who underwent neuro-surgery with his medical status pegged at critical. “Unlike Congress culture of holding on to power, Kamal Nath and Ashok Gehlot being prime examples, BJP is endowed with the Sanghi culture of abstinence espoused by RSS Pracharaks like Khattar, former Gujarat CM Vijay Rupani. Fulltime Pracharaks live away from their families for years following a spiritual code of self-conduct prescribing, for instance, daily meals at party offices or homes of BJP workers,” a senior Sangh leader told shortpost.in. Khattar and Modi worked as Pracharaks in Punjab, Haryana for years together riding on the same scooter. “Modi similarly distributed the proceeds after auctioning gifts he received as Gujarat CM among staffers in the CMO before taking charge of PMO in 2014. Rupani eschewed his post when told to and now dons the role of Punjab’s Prabhari. The mantle of Gujarat’s CM will likely pass to another Patel or even Rajput candidate after recent disruptions in the latter community. Only Modi knows though. Khattar has donated his property worth one crore to the PMO in public interest but may have to take charge of Union Ministership next. Godspeed to Patel for his son’s recovery.

MP Cong Leader Embarrasses Gandhis, Pitches Dole For Women As ‘Polygamy Allowance’
Both Priyanka Vadra and Rahul Gandhi are very proud of the Congress guarantees and how it has helped the party capture power in at least two southern states — Karnataka and Telangana and in Himachal. However if they were to hear the way senior Congress leader and former Union Minister Kantilal Bhuria is pitching the Mahalakshmi guarantee for women — promised in the party manifesto — that guarantees woman Rs 1 lakh in her bank account — as an assured scheme for polygamy, the Gandhis would be surely shocked. Bhuria who is contesting the Ratlam Lok Sabha seat from Madhya Pradesh, stirred controversy when he said that women from each household would receive “Rs 1 lakh, and those with two wives would get Rs 2 lakh If Congress comes to power, as our manifesto states,” Bhuria said while addressing a poll rally in Ratlam. The Congress on April 5 released the manifesto ‘Nyay Patra’ for the Lok Sabha elections 2024 and has promised to introduce the ‘Mahalakshmi Scheme’ in the poll manifesto which will provide Rs 1 lakh annually or Rs 8, 500 per month to the poor to alleviate poverty. While the manifesto has made no mention of two wives, it is Bhuria at his imaginative best. Tearing into Bhuria, BJP national spokesperson Shehzad Poonawala said Kantilal Bhuria has disclosed the “perverted variant of ‘jitni aabadi utna haq’ scheme/guarantee of Congress. It’s not about women samman but treating women like an object……disgusting.”

NCLT Gives Nod, Dharani Sugar Promoters' Regain Control
Dharani Sugars and Chemicals, a listed entity, has returned to the hands of the original promoter. Well, the Chennai bench of NCLT has allowed an application filed by promoter PGP group for settlement and revival of Dharani Sugars and Chemicals. The application was filed under Section 12A of the IBC (Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code). Section 12A permits the withdrawal of an insolvency application against a corporate debtor if approved by at least 90% of the committee of creditors (CoC) in cases admitted under Section 7, Section 9 or Section 10 of IBC.  Following the admission of the application, Dharani Sugars and Chemicals has come out of insolvency resolution process. This is the second victory for the PGP group before NCLT. Sometime ago, the group regained control of Appu Hotels, which runs the iconic Le Royal Meridien Chennai and Le Meridien Coimbatore. DSCL has three sugar plants in Tamil Nadu. DSCL was the first sugar company in Tamil Nadu promoted by NRI investors led by Dr Palani G Periasamy. Its revival augurs well for the Tamil Nadu sugar industry, one of the traditionally strong businesses of the state which has started languishing due to fall in cane cultivation area following drought and farmers opting for paddy, cotton and other crops. Well, Periasamy has reasons to cheer.

Rahul-Goenka Episode Did Not Make For A Pleasant Picture
The visuals from the cricket stadium in Uppal, Secunderabad, where the home team Sunrisers Hyderabad beat Lucknow SuperGiants hollow, conveyed anything but warmth between the owner of the Lucknow team, Sanjiv Goenka and the team captain, KL Rahul. The boundary line episode for a few minutes mirrored Goenka’s disappointment at the team going down without a fight – LSG lost the match by 10 wickets to the Sunrisers — and allegedly getting into a stern talk with Rahul who has been going through difficult times, even not considered by the selection committee and team management for the ICC Men’s World Twenty20 in the USA and West Indies. The injury to express fast bowler Mayanak Yadav has largely made the LSG bowling department without firepower, resulting in the team winning only half of the 12 matches it has played.  With two more matches to be played against the playoff hopeful, Delhi Capitals, and the down and out Mumbai Indians, the Rahul-led team can still qualify for the knock-out part of the Tata-IPL-17. Rahul has played 197 matches for India across formats. The cricket fan has never seen the courteous cricketer being given a public dressing down by the BCCI officials or the captains and coaches he has played under. Only three people were in the visual – Goenka, Rahul and an LSG support staff – and one could not lip-read what a seemingly worked up Goenka was telling Rahul, but it certainly did not make a pleasant picture!

Arvind Kejriwal Gets Bail, I.N.D.I.A Bloc Gets A Boost
In a boost to the I.N.D.I.A front, the Supreme Court granted interim bail to Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal on May 10 — three days after the Enforcement Directorate argued that politicians could not be treated differently from non-politicians in the PMLA case. Kejriwal has been granted bail till June 1 in connection with a money laundering case connected to the Delhi excise policy scam even as his counsel pleaded that his bail be extended till June 4 — that is the day of Lok Sabha results. The court has asked the AAP supremo to surrender on June 2. The interim bail has been granted in order to enable Kejriwal to campaign for the Lok Sabha elections 2024. Senior Advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi appearing for Kejriwal, stated that interim bail was essential to ensure that Kejriwal had a level playing field in the upcoming elections as Delhi votes on May 25. The ED had arrested Kejriwal on March 21. There is a sense of jubilation over release of the AAP chief in the I.N.D.I.A front with SP chief Akhilesh Yadav and West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee welcoming it. Congress sources, however are not sure if Kejriwal would have polled more votes for the alliance from behind the bars in Tihar or now actively out campaigning across states. Opposing his bail solicitor general Tushar Mehta admitted that “only thing at stake was Kejriwal’s right to campaign for elections, which was not an absolute right to begin with”. Dismissing the objections, the bench headed by Justice Sanjiv Khanna felt “There are extraordinary circumstances for interim bail. We are only examining if those circumstances were met here, in view of the upcoming elections.”

Has The Kapil Sharma Show Lost Its Zing?
Just when we thought that the Aamir Khan episode saved The Great Indian Kapil Show comes the news that the team has wrapped up Season One of the show after six episodes. An avid show watcher was very critical and said, “I am not surprised. It was bound to wrap up…how can anyone eat a dhokla that has been served like pizza?”  The show ever since it went to Netflix did not seem to have the same draw, stickiness and buzz like it was on Sony TV during weekends. The general feedback is that there is no novelty or freshness; even Sunil Grover who returned to show after a gap of seven years failed to regale the audience. His earlier avatar as Guthi was better than current one as Dafli. Even Krushna Abhishek and Kiku Sharda who have emotional bonding with the audiences and guests seemed to have lost their zing. Also, missing from the show are Chandan Prabhakar, Sunil Lahiri and Sumona Chakraborty. Essentially, the show failed to deliver the punch for which it was famous for. Is it because OTT caters to a different audience while TV channels are watched by the entire family? Kapil Sharma started his comedy show in 2016 and it was getting very good traction. But soon he had a fall out with his team mates like Sunil Grover. Post that he shifted the show to Sony TV and got Salman Khan to bank roll it.  Now, the quick wrap of Season One has raised eyebrows but Netflix has quickly reacted saying that Season Two with seven episodes will feature celebrities like Ed Sheeran, Anil Kapoor, Sonakshi Sinha and Sania Mirza.  Only Ed Sheeran is a new catch, the rest of the guests are usual suspects. Season Two will effectively spell out which way Kapil Sharma and his show is going.

BJD's Richest Candidate Santrupt Misra Sweeps Streets Of Cuttack To Win Votes
The visuals of Biju Janata Dal’s wealthiest candidate Santrupt Misra (former HR Director of Aditya Birla Group) sweeping the streets of Cuttack has gone viral. The Cuttack Lok Sabha seat is all set to witness a tough battle between six-time ex-BJD veteran MP Bhatruhari Mahtab who recently joined BJP and Misra (BJD) who for the first time is testing electoral politics. Why is Misra in the news? Not because he is the richest BJD candidate having assets of over Rs 461 crore plus investments worth Rs 308 crore and rumours of him investing in BJD? But locals are sitting up and taking notice of this corporate honcho going that extra length of picking the broom to win the Lok Sabha seat from Cuttack.  But, he faces a very formidable opponent in BJP’s Bhatruhari Mahatab who was co-founder of BJD. Are voters impressed by the optics of Misra sweeping the street? Not really! The general impression is that he is not doing it for free…he is merely doing it to win votes. But, the moot point is can Patnaik’s handpicked man defeat a veteran politician like Mahatab?  The general perception is that Mahatab has been six times MP, now it is time for change — a new face with new ideas and Misra fits that bill very well.

Model Code Of Conduct Proves Irksome To Tamil Nadu Govt
Tamil Nadu was the first State to go to the polls for all 39 seats on the very first day of the Lok Sabha elections of 2024. While getting the polls out of the way seemed a good idea and the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin could even go on a holiday to a hill station where he could take over a whole luxury resort for self, family and doctors, the fact that the model code of conduct is in place till June 4 is proving irksome. The Chief Minister was keen to make a splash with newspaper advertisements to mark his government’s third anniversary on May 7, but the Election Commission came down on it and stopped the ads. Steering clear of any controversy building up over any policy announcements by him, the CM left it to the IAS officers to make the announcements on small policy issues. He did, however, make a personal statement on his government’s achievements, with pride on the breakfast scheme in schools taking off and earning praise from India and abroad and the free bus scheme for women that has helped many domestic aides and casual workers to move around easily to their work spots while saving money. The CM would still like to make a public celebration of three years of running the government smoothly enough with media advertisements to come out on June 5 morning after the model code of conduct expires.

In Bengal, All Eyes On Barrackpore As PM Modi And Didi Gear Up For A Showdown On May 12
Barrackpore Lok Sabha seat under North 24 Parganas has garnered much attention with both Trinamool Congress and BJP pressing their top leaders Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and Prime Minister Narendra Modi to campaign for their parties’ candidates. While BJP is fighting it out to retain the seat, TMC is desperate to gain it back since a major Assembly chunk under this LS seat belongs to TMC. The battle will be fought between TMC’s minister and Didi’s trusted lieutenant Partha Bhowmick and TMC turncoat Arjun Singh who jumped ship ahead of 2019 and 2024 Lok Sabha elections after being denied ticket by Didi. PM Modi will be holding his rally for Singh in Jagatdal at 11 am on Sunday ( May 12) Didi will hold hers at 2 pm at Shantinagar ground of Palta under Noapara Assembly, home turf of TMC. However, Mamata will be holding another rally on Monday (May 13) at Amdanga, another stronghold of TMC under Barrackpore Lok Sabha constituency. Incidentally, Amdanga Assembly seat belongs to TMC and has a majority of minority votes. Interestingly, this LS seat comprises seven Assembly seats of which six were won by TMC in 2021 Assembly polls. According to political analysts, Barrackpore which is a Hindi-speaking belt has an added advantage for Arjun Singh. On the other hand Bhowmick will have to rely majorly on the minority belts of Amdanga and part of Naihati, which he represents as an MLA. It may be noted that PM Modi campaigned for Singh during 2019 elections and latter enjoys a great rapport with Union home minister Amit Shah.

Priyanka Vadra’s Intense Poll Drive Lifts The Spirit Of Cong Cadres In Uttar Pradesh
In a scorching campaign, Priyanka Vadra walks, talks and takes the BJP head on, holding her saree pallu in a spitting image of her Dadi, and the UP crowds roar in déjà vu approval. Why didn’t the Congress field both siblings from the family seats – Amethi and Raebareli? The glib explanation that if both stand, who will take care of the campaign? Behind the scenes murmur reveals a plausible gambit. Priyanka has to contend with her husband Robert Vadra’s claim for a seat, an ambition that could queer the pitch for Rahul. Sonia is now on mission mode, Rahul has to win from Raebareli. Priyanka has galvanised over 7000 Congress workers to visit every nook and corner of both the constituencies. Her latest plan is to camp in Raebareli and Amethi till May 18 and cover every stump group she can address. Wait and watch …Priyanka may yet outdo her Dadi…if she lands that slot.

Editor’s Note: Short Post Noticed By People Who Matter

Four years have zipped by and we are crossing another milestone on 31st January 2025 – it’s our 4th Anniversary. It feels good.
Looking back at the 1460 days, I must say Short Post has made its mark with people who matter via 4000 stories published in the areas of politics, business, entertainment and sports. All made possible by the unflinching commitment and dedication of our senior editors, most of whom have been part of this journey from Day One.
Small pack, big impact is in essence the story of Short Post which was launched at the height of the Covid-19 pandemic in 2021. It shows our conviction. In all humility, I can say, we have created a new niche in the news segment space like Hindustan Unilever which created a new segment, when it launched CloseUp Gel.
Yes, we have created a brand (in a limited sense), created demand (readers) and created supply (senior journalists). But we are facing teething problems like all start-ups. What makes us happy and confident is the recognition of our efforts. For instance, we have an arrangement with the OPEN Magazine, part of the $4.5 billion Kolkata-based Sanjiv Goenka-RPG Group. This arrangement sees around 10 Short Post stories posted on OPEN Magazine website every week. This arrangement is testimony that our content has been well received! Also, I may add that the Maharashtra government has recognised Short Post and has allowed our senior editor to cover the Assembly sessions. Ditto: Odisha.
Our goal is to ensure that Short Post becomes a habit. I would like people to keep checking their smartphones to know the latest Authentic Gossip. As regards AI and the fear of it disrupting all businesses including media. On that, personally, I have no such fear as I am confident AI cannot smell news particularly Authentic Gossip. That’s the place we are well entrenched.
