Former J&K Governor, Manoj Sinha, under whose watch sections 370 and 35 (A) were shrugged off from India’s constitution, elections held in Ladakh, J&K Union Territories peacefully, has made the shortlist for appointment as BJP’s next National President come March 15. Even former Haryana CM Manohar Lal Khattar and Bhupinder Yadav are in the fray with the latter enjoying a slight edge over the former, who donated all his property to the PM Relief Fund. Some within BJP are unenthusiastic over Sinha’s candidature though he always held vital Ministries even earlier. His lack of organizational (general secretary post) skills has RSS less than supportive. “Sinha was never overtly pro-Hindu. He restarted religious processions of the Shia community, stopped since militancy peaked in the forehead state of India.” His less than friendly relationship with UP CM Yogi Adityanath (who put his foot down when Sinha was seriously considered for CM’s post in the Hindu heartland state of UP). Then, BJP’s high command acceded in deference to Yogi, made Sinha (who lost Gazipur seat) wait two years before appointing him as J&K Governor. Outgoing President JP Nadda was similarly RSS’ first choice in 2014 and yet, PM Modi anointed Amit Shah. Thereafter, Nadda was accommodated as leader of Rajya Sabha, a post Piyush Goyal had to vacate. Nadda’s organisational helming of affairs for BJP was marred by Himachal Pradesh loss, his own backyard state, his exit from top leadership post became an almost certainty, although he was given one year extension due to 2024 general elections of India.
