Rahul-Goenka Episode Did Not Make For A Pleasant Picture

The visuals from the cricket stadium in Uppal, Secunderabad, where the home team Sunrisers Hyderabad beat Lucknow SuperGiants hollow, conveyed anything but warmth between the owner of the Lucknow team, Sanjiv Goenka and the team captain, KL Rahul. The boundary line episode for a few minutes mirrored Goenka’s disappointment at the team going down without a fight – LSG lost the match by 10 wickets to the Sunrisers — and allegedly getting into a stern talk with Rahul who has been going through difficult times, even not considered by the selection committee and team management for the ICC Men’s World Twenty20 in the USA and West Indies. The injury to express fast bowler Mayanak Yadav has largely made the LSG bowling department without firepower, resulting in the team winning only half of the 12 matches it has played.  With two more matches to be played against the playoff hopeful, Delhi Capitals, and the down and out Mumbai Indians, the Rahul-led team can still qualify for the knock-out part of the Tata-IPL-17. Rahul has played 197 matches for India across formats. The cricket fan has never seen the courteous cricketer being given a public dressing down by the BCCI officials or the captains and coaches he has played under. Only three people were in the visual – Goenka, Rahul and an LSG support staff – and one could not lip-read what a seemingly worked up Goenka was telling Rahul, but it certainly did not make a pleasant picture!
