Three Auspicious Dates Suggested For The Grand Opening Of Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Temple
The progress of the ground floor in Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Temple in Ayodhya was reviewed recently by the senior members of the Trust including Chairman Construction Committee headed by Nripendra Misra. Even as details of the temple were shared in a release by Misra, it was disclosed that the construction work on infrastructure buildings was in full swing and it was likely to be completed by October 2023. The dome size of the five mandaps are 34 ft wide and 32 ft. The height of the courtyard varies from 69 feet to 111 feet. The Temple is 380 feet in length, 250 feet wide and 161 feet high from the courtyard. The three-storey Temple has five mandaps and one main Shikar. The size of Sanctum Sanctorum is 20 feet x 20 feet in length and width with a total area of 403.34 sq. ft. There will be 46 numbers of teakwood doors. The door of Sanctum Sanctorum will be ornated with gold. There are 392 pillars which have been structurally provided taking into consideration the load factor and other climatic challenges. Meanwhile, it is learnt that the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust has sent an invitation letter to PM Modi for the grand opening of the Ram temple in Ayodhya while suggesting three “auspicious dates” for the ceremony. They are between January 17 and 24.  It may be recalled that the temple’s foundation was laid in a ceremony presided over by Modi on August 5, 2020.

Newspaper Ads Highlight Shadow Boxing Between Ruling Allies SS-BJP In Maharashtra
A front-page newspaper advertisement issued by the chief minister Eknath Shinde faction of the Shiv Sena tom-tomming a survey that rated Shinde ahead of his deputy Devendra Fadnavis for CM’s post, has highlighted the shadow boxing between the ruling allies in Maharashtra. Interestingly, the advertisement with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s photo comes in the wake of the discontentment brewing in the Shinde camp following tactics adopted by the BJP. The friction between the Shinde’s Sena and the BJP was also evident in reports that the national party had asked Shinde to sack five of his party ministers on grounds of unsatisfactory performance. This had upset the Shinde camp since all five ministers on the chopping board were Shinde strongmen, who played key roles in his government formation that helped him get the CM’s chair. The BJP strategy to expand in Maharashtra — not by making inroads into Opposition spaces but by inching into strongholds held by its own ally, the Eknath Shinde faction of the Shiv Sena — has clearly upset the CM and his party of supporters. His supporters fear being denied tickets in their own backyards. Not surprisingly, firebrand Shiv Sena Parliamentarian Sanjay Raut commented that the BJP would make Shinde’s men to scramble for every seat. Amit Shah has announced a target to win 45 of the total 48 seats in the state during his recent rally at Nanded.

Are Business Houses in Tamil Nadu Turning Gender Agnostic?
For decades business houses in Tamil Nadu have kept the business out of bounds for women members. That thinking is slowly changing. Now, the corporate world in this Dravidian land is turning gender-agnostic. With the four groups in the larger TVS family quietly going their separate ways legally, the yester-year hurdle (somewhat perceived, though) has disappeared for the womenfolk in their families. Suresh Krishna’s daughters are running the show in Sundram Fasteners. Venu Srinivasan’s daughter is also firmly in the family business. Of course, Mallika Srinivasan is driving the Amalgamation group. The iconic Apollo Hospitals is managed by Pratap Reddy’s daughters. N Srinivasan’s daughter Rupa Gurunath is well entrenched in The India Cements. Cavinkare has seen C K Ranganathan’s daughter too is getting into her father’s business. The Sengol fame Vummidi Bangaru Jewellers has already welcomed a fifth generation (four daughters) into the business. Perhaps the Murugappa group is an exception at the moment where one of the women members of the family –Valli Arunachalam — is engaged in a bitter legal wrangle with others over the denial of her right to get her due in the business of the group. Incidentally, it was the eldest daughter who alerted her father and MD of Pricol Vikram Mohan to the raid by Minda on his company! Well, women power has truly come to party in the family business.
Ajinkya Rahane
Why Not Appoint Ajinkya Rahane As Captain For The West Indies Test Series
It is out-of-the-box thinking, but one that needs to be addressed by the BCCI’s senior national selection committee with purpose and urgency. Willy-nilly, Ajinkya Rahane — not on annual retainership — appears to have returned to captaincy stakes after his triumphant comeback to the national ranks for the multi-day Test match cricket. Rahane is not naive to the leadership role; he was the captain of the Indian team that scored a remarkable series win in Australia after the team was shot out for 36 in the second innings at Adelaide in December 2020. He has led India in 6 Tests and won four, three against Australia. He has not lost a Test match. Rahane has an average of 39.89 as captain scoring 359 runs in 11 innings. The soft-spoken Mumbaikar has made quite an impression as a leader, and the selection committee, without a chairman, could look at him for the series in the West Indies.  In fact, the selection committee — after India’s dismal display in the ICC WTC final at The Oval — must take the opportunity to look to bring in new players with a good record in the domestic tournaments. India has gone down in two WTC finals because of its stereotype policies — including the decision to drop Ravichandran Ashwin — and hence the time is upon the selection committee to usher changes, and quickly too.

All Eyes On Ajit Pawar As Sunil Tatkare Appointed National Treasurer Of NCP
Nationalist Congress party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar has sprung one more surprise as part of his reshuffle of party top functionaries. NCP’s Raigad MP Sunil Tatkare has been appointed national treasurer. Various interpretations are coming forward since Tatkare is viewed as a staunch supporter of Pawar though considered close to Ajit Pawar as well. Nonetheless, the appointment of Tatkare is termed as a blow for Ajit, whose position within the party is becoming shaky by the day, his detractors whisper. On the other hand, keeping Ajit away from all top party posts is described as a masterstroke by Pawar’s loyalists. In a tricky situation, Ajit can build bridges with the BJP if the Congress or the Shiv Sena led by Uddhav Thackeray decide to sideline the NCP in the coming elections, especially the Mumbai municipal contest. Already, some leaders of the two parties have started indicating that they will not accept the NCP as the main force in the Maha Vikas Aghadi that ruled the state for two and a half years. In the fluid situation, the reticence of the BJP is felt to be fraught with a hidden agenda since except for Devendra Fadnavis, none of the party leaders have reacted to the developments within the NCP. In stark contrast, Sena spokesman Sanjay Raut has not lost a single opportunity to needle Ajit Pawar, whose next move will decide the shape of things in Maharashtra.
Adipurush
Why This Fatal Attraction For ‘Ramayan’ By Bollywood?
After many hiccups and pickups, Prabhas led Adipurush is all set for release. One would think Bahubali Prabhas as Ram, Kriti Sanon as Sita, and hold your breath, Saif Ali Khan as Ravan would fly high even in the pre-release teasers and publicity pleasers. But controversy and caustic carp is already being tossed like hailstones. Prabhas, it seems, does not fit into that beloved divine mould of Lord Ram. Even his dialogue is dead pan. The cast and crew visited Tirupathi Balaji temple for a Big Bang trailer release, and director Om Raut stirred up a salacious controversy…he publicly kissed Kriti, the Sita Ma whose chastity is the anchor of the epic ballad. Ram devotees taunted Kirti’s claim that she had observed Vrat for the film. But the arrow that hit the jugular was the one liner of Censor Board Member and film critic, Umair Sandhu: ”Adipurush…Torture“.To add more grist to this devilish mill Kangana Ranaut, the self-styled moral police, critic and media high priestess has poured out her anger at yet another Ramayan in the works,  which has Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram, Alia Bhat as Sita and the KGF rough Yash as Ravan. Is Bollywood drained and devoid of compelling stories? Or is this artistic hara-kiri, to relive again and again the beloved epic of our land to indulge the egoistic fantasies of top stars?

Why BJP Is Not Keen To Forge Ties With TDP
There is not much excitement in the BJP circles about TDP Chief N Chandrababu Naidu’s brief meeting with Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP president JP Nadda early this month. The possibility of an electoral alliance between the two parties ahead of the Telangana assembly election later this year and general elections next year are being ruled out as it would not suit BJP. TDP was a part of the NDA in 2014 but quit the ruling alliance in March 2018 before the 2019 elections on the issue of special status to Andhra Pradesh. However, both parties came together after the recent municipal elections in Port Blair. BJP sources said TDP is not much liked in Telangana as it had opposed creation of a separate state of Telangana. “It is precisely for this reason that the Congress-TDP alliance has not clicked in the new state. Congress is a stronger party but gets pulled down by the TDP,” pointed out a BJP functionary. It is precisely for this reason that the BJP which is trying to make some inroads in Telangana would shun a tie-up with the TDP. As for Andhra, a party source admitted that the BJP was already in alliance with Pawan Kalyan’s party Jana Sena and may tie-up with TDP. Significantly, PM Modi remembered NT Rama Rao, TDP founder and Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh on his birth anniversary in his radio program Mann Ki Baat last month.

Pawar’s Masterstroke: Reading Between The Lines
Eighty-two year old Sharad Pawar has always been considered heavyweight in the Indian political firmament. His influence cuts across party lines — Congress, BJP, CPM, TMC, AAP etc. Nobody dares to cross swords with him.  In fact, be it Rajiv Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Narendra Modi or regional party leaders, they have held Pawar in high esteem and given a lot of weightage to his suggestions and ideas. So, when the supremo of Nationalist Congress Party stepped down from the party’s president’s post a few days ago and then on the party’s Foundation Day named two working presidents — Praful Patel and daughter Supriya Sule – it did put cat among the pigeons. The big question everybody is asking what happens to the ambitious nephew Ajit Pawar? Historically, Ajit was not interested in national politics; his eyes were on the CM’s gaddi. But, now with cousin Supriya made in charge of Maharashtra does it signal that his wings are being clipped? Nobody is sticking their neck out. But by making the suave, articulate Praful Patel also a working president, Pawar Sr has again displayed why he is unpredictable. Patel, a smart businessman and seasoned politician, is currently under the glare of the Enforcement Directorate in the Iqbal Mirchi case. The ED has attached his property – four floors in Ceejay House in Worli, Mumbai. According to a political analyst, if ED is hot on Patel’s case and should he resign from NCP’s working president post then the entire mantle of leadership falls on Sule. Post that the road is clear for her. It is mere conjecture though anything can happen in politics, says the political analyst.

Promise Vs Performance: Has Modi Govt Delivered In The Last 9 Years?
No government has been under a giant microscope as the present dispensation headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Anything he does or says gets two extreme views. This is why the article in the Indian Express by Distinguished Professor Ashok Gulati and Research Associate Purvi Thangaraj, both from ICRIER, makes for an interesting reading. The duo have evaluated the performance of UPA and NDA on three parameters.  They have chosen GDP growth, inflation numbers and impact of social welfare schemes for two periods. The UPA government –2004-05 to 2013-14 — headed by Manmohan Singh. And the NDA government — 2014-15 to 2022-23 — headed by Modi. The average annual GDP growth during Modi’s regime stood at 5.7% compared with 6.8% clocked during Singh’s 10-year period. “But in terms of taming CPI inflation, the Modi government has surely done a much better job by holding the inflation rate at 5.1% vis-a-vis Manmohan Singh’s period when it averaged at 8.1%.  On the social welfare scheme front, the writers say the Modi government appears to have surpassed the achievements of the Singh government. In sum, they say, “Overall, while the Modi government’s performance in terms of GDP growth has been somewhat subdued, it has succeeded in taming inflation, keeping agri-growth respectable and doing a much better job on welfare schemes than UPA.”
Cowin
CoWin Data: Who Leaked It?
The twitter world went on overdrive over a tweet by Trinamool Congress national spokesperson Saket Gokhale over the CoWin data leak. He tweeted: “a major data breach of Modi Govt where personal details of all vaccinated Indians including their mobile nos., Aadhaar numbers, Passport numbers, voters ID have been leaked and are freely available.” Some of the people whose data were leaked are: Dy Chairman Rajya Sabha Haribansh Narayan Singh; TMC leaders Derek O’ Brien, Sushmita Dev; Congress leaders P Chidambaram, Jairam Ramesh, Ahishek Manu Singhvi KC Venugopal and couple of TV journalists. So where does the blame lie? Clearly, during Pandemic anybody who travelled had to give a vaccine certificate. Besides, self-attested copies of Aadhaar/Passport/Pan cards are given by all of us for various purposes – banks, insurance companies, CAs etc. So the leak can be from anywhere. From the government side, union minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar immediately tweeted: “With ref to some Alleged Cowin data breaches reported on social media, @IndianCERT has immdtly responded n reviewed this (sic). A Telegram Bot was throwing up Cowin app details upon entry of phone numbers. The data being accessed by bot from a threat actor data, which seems to hv been populated wth previously stolen data in the past. It does not appear that Cowin app or database has been directly breached.“

Editor’s Note: Big Punch In Small Pack

It is the Third Anniversary of Short Post and as a news media startup launched during the Covid-19 pandemic it certainly feels better than good to find ourselves where we are today. Here, I must cite the unstinted support of our seasoned contributors, all senior editors in the country, who brought a great degree of maturity and sagacity to the Short Post newsroom. But for them, our tagline “Authentic Gossip”, an Oxymoron, would not have matured viably. Our user numbers may be small but our stories have created the desired impact among people who matter — decision makers and influencers. We offer a big punch in a small pack and Short Post with its 225-word stories has been punching above its weight category. Having posted close to 3,000 stories in the last 36 months, Short Post, I feel, is an idea whose time has come.
And this is vindicated by our two marquee advertisers – IDFC FIRST Bank and ICICI Lombard. Both believed in our story and have supported us from Day one. A big thank you to both.
If you look at the media landscape – print, TV and digital — it is a mixed bag. There are job losses as some outfits have closed down while a lucky few were bailed out by large corporate houses. Yes, there is a lot of action in the digital space. However, the entry of corporate houses has raised the question of independence of news media outfits. Sadly, there are just a handful of independent media outfits in the country that are highly respected for their neutrality. At Short Post, our credo is not to take sides, prejudge issues or be biased but, informing readers of behind-the-scenes happenings. In essence, Short Post strives to be a neutral editorial platform — neither anti-establishment nor pro-establishment.
As I said last year, disruptions in the media world are moving at a fast and furious pace. Technology is playing a very big role in how content is generated and consumed. But, we are neither alarmed nor perturbed as it is all a part of the evolution process. What gives us comfort is that AI is unable to create original gossipy content. And that is the news arena where we have achieved a distinction.
